Sarah Shaffer graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park, in 2005 with a bachelor’s in environmental science and policy. She was a charter member of both the Beta Alpha Chapter, where she served two years as treasurer, and the University of Maryland Alumni Chapter. During college, Sarah was also an officer of the College of Agriculture Student Union, Equestrian Club, and American Indian Student Union. She graduated in 2007 with a master’s from American University, where she focused on multi-track diplomacy and environmental peacemaking in areas of ethnic conflict. Upon graduation, Sarah received a Presidential Management Fellowship with the U.S. Department of State; after covering portfolios in intercountry adoptions, crisis management, and food defense, she has now completed the fellowship and converted into the competitive Civil Service. Sarah served as National Alumni Board secretary for two years and is in her fifth year as secretary for the University of Maryland Alumni. She lives in Odenton, MD with two good friends and two zany cats, and volunteers her time at 4-H horsemanship clinics when not avidly cheering for her Terps or burying her nose in a book.

Greetings Sisters! My name is Shelley Armour and I’m proud to be serving as you National Alumni Board Vice President. I am a charter member of the Beta Alpha chapter and currently a member of the North Carolina Alumni Chapter since I now live in the gorgeous state of North Carolina. If you’ve been to National Convention in the past few years you may recognize me as the choir leader. Career wise I’m on my fifth year of teaching agriculture in high school, I taught 3 years in Maryland (my home state) and moved to North Carolina where I’ve taught for the past two years. I look forward to working with you all to make your Sigma Alpha experience all it can be. If you’re a recent graduate or alumni don’t forget that you can still be involved! I like to say “Sisterhood does not end with graduation.” I am in charge of coordinating committees for the National Alumni Association but I will do my best to serve you in anyway you need. If you have a question, idea, concern or just want to chat, I can be contacted via shelleya@sigmaalpha.org or on Facebook! Have a great year!

I am originally from Custar, OH where I grew up on a 1200 acre grain farm and was very involved in both 4-H and FFA. I currently live in Redkey, IN where I work for The Andersons, Inc. as an Account Representative helping farmers with their marketing, crop insurance and risk management. I look forward to serving my sisters in the year to come.
